Livos' story: Back to our roots

20171019_134542

Products for treating wood have existed for centuries. In fact, did you know that flax oil and tung oil have been used for more than 2000 years? Indeed these have been known as excellent in protecting wood against damage caused by water and sunshine. Evidence of their use has even been traced back to many years before Christ in products derived from the flax used in ancient civilizations in Egypt...

EVOLUTION OF THE PRODUCTS TILL TODAY

1930: POLYURETHANE APPEARANCE

In the 1930s appeared polyurethane-based products intended to protect wood. Since these products were more performant and more resistant than natural pure oils, they soon invaded the market.

WHAT IS POLYURETHANE?

Polyurethane also called “PU” is part of the large family of diverse polymers and plastics. It is a chemical. Polyurethane is found in several products such as varnishes for treating wood.

1960 TO 1970: BACK TO NATURAL PRODUCTS

Twenty years later, that is in the 60s, several researchers noticed that synthetic products were harmful to health. Unfortunately, their effects on health were considered pointless, trivial and insignificant because of the lack of measurements and observation.

However, visionary researchers started to study the impact of the use of  polyurethane-based products on congenital malformations or chronic diseases and wanted to replace these toxic products with more natural, ecological  products that were safe for health and environment. This way, flax oil and tung oil made a renewed outbreak on the market.

This marked the start of the Livos firm in Germany in 1974. This firm's mission was and is still to create products that are safe both for the environment and the human beings that use them. The products created by Livos do not contain any toxic synthetics. They are made from natural vegetable oils that are both healthy and efficient. You have to understand that products containing polyurethane are still available in stores. This means that it is up to the consumer to make an enlightened choice by getting adequate information. One of the dangers in making a wrong decision is the price that is often considered an important factor. If polyurethane-based products may seem less expensive than natural ecological products, remember that your health is priceless!
